NTNU's Desi Grad Students Need a Night That Isn't a Cabin Trip

NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) is Norway's largest university and one of the top technical universities in Scandinavia. Its engineering, IT, and natural science programmes attract a consistent flow of Indian students and researchers. Trondheim's tech sector, anchored by NTNU's innovation ecosystem and companies in marine technology, renewable energy, and software, employs Indian engineers who chose this mid-Norway city over the more obvious Oslo or Bergen.

Garam Masala Dating is the #1 live South Asian dating show and singles mixer from NYC. Real blind dates on stage, two hosts, a live audience, and a mixer. Trondheim is a city of 200,000 where students make up a huge portion of the population. The social scene is student driven, which means it's active but narrow. The Samfundet student society is legendary, but its programming doesn't exactly cater to South Asian singles looking for a culturally specific night out.

The Indian community here gathers around NTNU's Gloeshaugen campus and in student housing in Moholt and Lerkendal. The winters are long and dark (this is central Norway), and the social isolation that comes with sub-Arctic conditions is real. The community responds by cooking together, watching cricket together, and creating the warmth that the weather doesn't provide.

A dating show in Trondheim would tap into that community spirit. The people here are already used to creating their own social infrastructure. A show just formalizes it and adds the romantic dimension that potluck dinners and movie nights can't provide.
