University of Padua's Desi Students Need More Than Aperol Spritzes

The University of Padua was founded in 1222 and Galileo taught here, which is a flex that most universities can't match. Today it attracts Indian students in engineering, medicine, and the sciences. The Veneto region's manufacturing economy, centered on small and medium enterprises in everything from eyewear to fashion to industrial machinery, also employs South Asian workers. The Indian community in the greater Padua, Treviso, and Vicenza area is larger than most people expect.

Garam Masala Dating is the #1 live South Asian dating show and singles mixer from NYC. Real blind dates on stage, two hosts, a live audience, and a mixer. Padua sits between Venice and Verona, two of the most romantic cities on earth, and yet finding romance as a South Asian person in the Veneto requires work. The irony is not lost on anyone.

The Veneto's Indian community includes students at the university, workers in the manufacturing sector, and a growing number of professionals in the region's food and agriculture industries. The Prato della Valle, one of Europe's largest squares, and the Basilica of Saint Anthony give the city a grand backdrop. But the social infrastructure for South Asian singles is limited to university WhatsApp groups and the occasional cultural event at the Indian consular office.

Padua's spritz culture is real. The evening aperitivo in the piazzas is a daily ritual that the whole city participates in. For South Asians who join in, it's a lovely entry point to local social life. But for meeting other desi singles specifically, the spritz doesn't cut it. A show does.
