Troy, Michigan is one of the most Indian suburbs in America, and if you grew up there you already know that. You also know that dating within the community here means either getting set up by someone’s mom or running into the same twelve people at every garba and Diwali party. Canton, Novi, Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield. The desi footprint in metro Detroit is massive, but the social infrastructure for single people is basically nonexistent.

Garam Masala Dating is changing that. We run the #1 live South Asian dating show and singles mixer in New York City that sells out every other week. Real singles go on blind dates on stage, the audience watches and reacts, and everyone mixes before and after. It’s loud, it’s fun, and nobody has to pretend they’re not there to meet someone.

The Detroit metro desi community is heavily professional. Automotive engineers, healthcare workers, tech folks who chose Michigan over the coasts. There are also UMich grads who stuck around and Wayne State students who never left. The common thread is that everyone knows the community is here, but there’s no single event that brings all the single people together in one place.
